Dr David Green is a consultant anaesthetist and intensivist with more than 25 years of experience as a consultant across the NHS and independent healthcare sector.
His clinical background includes cardiac anaesthesia, intensive care, heart and lung transplantation, and the development of procedural sedation services across a range of hospital and clinic environments.
In 2016, David stepped away from full-time NHS practice to build a portfolio career at the intersection of clinical excellence, healthcare innovation and commercial service development. He holds an MBA with Distinction from Warwick Business School, where his dissertation, sponsored by AXA PPP Healthcare, examined transformation within the UK private healthcare sector.
He is Co-Director of Midland Intensive Care Limited, which provides intensive care services at The Priory Hospital, Edgbaston, part of Circle Health Group. During the Covid pandemic, he led the rapid reconfiguration of the Priory ITU to manage high-acuity non-Covid patients, work that remains one of the defining periods of his career.
In 2021, David became the first clinician in the United Kingdom to use remimazolam in routine clinical practice.
Since then, he has developed one of the UK’s largest real-world remimazolam practices, encompassing more than 1,000 procedural sedation cases drawn from a broader sedation practice of over 5,000 cases across fertility, cardiology and surgical settings. His work includes development of a nurse-delivered cardioversion sedation programme and a growing collaboration with PAION, the European licence holder for remimazolam.
In April 2026, he performed the first reported remimazolam general anaesthetic induction and maintenance case in the UK outside a formal clinical study — a milestone that has generated growing national and international interest.
David is currently developing remimazolam-based sedation and anaesthetic pathways for pulsed field ablation procedures in collaboration with Medtronic and leading clinicians in cardiac electrophysiology.
He has lectured nationally and internationally at Euroanaesthesia, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Association of Anaesthetists, Health Education England, and at multiple PAION-sponsored national and international meetings.
A practical book on procedural sedation service design and clinical implementation is currently in development.
Outside medicine, David is a trustee of the Empower Squash Foundation, which uses sport, mentorship and education to support young people from underserved communities.
Green Anaesthetic Limited exists to make decades of clinical, operational and commercial healthcare experience available to healthcare providers, industry partners and organisations seeking to develop high-quality procedural sedation and perioperative care services.
Having undergone catheter ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation under general anaesthesia in 2019, Dr Green has experienced procedural care from the patient's perspective. That experience reinforced the importance of calm communication, trust, preparation and recovery — values that inform his approach to every cardiac electrophysiology case he anaesthetises. Technical excellence matters. So does understanding how procedures feel from the inside.
